What is The Secret Community?

The Secret Community edition by J Meverington Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

Like many of the other reviews here, I'm going to use the word 'unique' to describe this story. Initially, for maybe the first few pages, I wondered if I was entering a Fifty Shades of Grey type scenario, but then whoa! This is anything but.
With parallel storylines, intertwined familial links, and two very separate styles of life, you quickly get caught up in the lives of the characters. It's good to sometimes be thrown off the scent, to have your faith in a character be tossed about like luggage on a turbulent plane. Don't count on trusting anyone in this story, until you get to the end!!
I really enjoyed this book, and the story, and the twists and turns.

The Secret Community edition by J Meverington Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

When I started this book I was quite confused chapter to chapter. It was like reading two separate books every other chapter. In one book the main character did a lot of sleeping and waking up confused. In the second book people were happily living off the land. The thing that kept me reading was Terri's plight. I read to find out what happened to her memory and why her husband treated her the way he did. Finally the books meshed and the story became clear and interesting.
The beginning had me completely mystified (in a good way) as to where the story was headed. Two completely separate plots eventually wove together into a journey that constantly held my interest.

The characters were memorable, and weren't too many which meant the storyline was easy to follow. (Damien was my favourite.)
Each character was visited regularly during the story so i always knew what each charater was doing.

The dialogue was sharp; i never once had to re-read anything to understand it. -)

All in all, an evenly paced mystery which i read in quick-time, and look forward to the sequel.
A girl wakes up with no memory! Where did she come from? The book was a little confusing swapping back and forth with a community at first with no easy way to tie it in.... but in the end the explanation makes more sense.

Bad guys and good guys do blur a little in the book and I was questioning what was going on a couple times? And what I knew....
This isn't my kind of book, so my rating is a bit biased. There maybe subtle spoilers, be warned... I'm into mysteries/suspense or non-fiction. When I read the synopsis I mistakenly believed this fit into the mystery category. The mystery was quickly resolved, and then there is some ethical explorations, well-- kind of. It's a nice novel that meanders through the daily rut/grind and a secret utopian community. I would probably like it if that was my interest, but it's just not. I can feel the author's passion in the writing, so I kind of feel guilty for not enjoying it more.
This is a book for readers who like a book that takes its time, paints complex pictures, and is easily accessible. Readers who prefer lean writing, and who prefer subtle cues, will feel the book is overwritten. The dialog is believable and true to how people speak. The dialog tags became a stumbling block for me, as the dialog itself usually conveyed what the tag instructed me to understand. All this is a matter of personal taste. I suggest reading the first few pages. If you like the style, then buckle up. You'll enjoy the drive.
I found the storyline unique, with two plots presented early on. At first, they seemed unrelated and I wondered how they would ever converge. Quite cleverly, is how. The characters were engaging and the suspense pulled me along up until the climax, then it petered out just a bit for me. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this easy thriller. I'm normally a slow reader and a book of this length would take a while, however, the writing is so smooth that I buzzed through it.
Through a unique and engaging plot, Terri's true identity and the reason for her loss of memory are revealed bit by bit. Her oppressor and her rescuer hold her captive in different ways, but Terri isn't one to be kept down for long.
The author combines reality with science fiction in this story of a young girl choosing her own destiny despite the efforts of her elders, some selfish and some for what they consider her benefit. Although the characters are convincing and well-developed, the storyline gets bogged down with repetition, exposition, and melodrama. The reader doesn't need a whole paragraph that includes the line "He no longer tried to stop the stream of feelings and let them flow from his body, finally releasing him from the prison in which he had been trapped" to say that he sobbed for joy.
J. Meverington's narration refers many times to the story's alternate world as "weird" and its people weirdos, but I think the idea is beautiful and hope to see other stories about it.
